A Perfect Day for Walking

Walking the same forest path is
Never the same, the dirt is
Different, so are the songs of the
Birds, and the pictures the clouds
Create are different too, one time
They are pirate ships, the next
Time mansions; the sun is
Different too, sometimes it is shy,
Hiding behind clouds, at other
Times it is a boastful bright
Orange, usually in the early
Morning; sometimes it has a pink
Hue when it is sinking into the
Horizon at dusk. This morning,
The sun is brilliant, the clouds
Few, and the birds are squawking
Loudly as I slowly move around
Stones left over from winter rains
On an old deer trail. In the silent
Hours of the early dawn, the sun
Is floating lazily over the verdant
Mountains, painting the meadow
Below with a soft apricot hue
Which rebounds off the boulders
Sitting in the rocky soil. It is a
Perfect day for walking.
