MY HEROSTRATUS
(see Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herostratus )

            for Heathcote Williams

Oh, yes, said Herostratus
I burned the temple down
I did it cause I wanted
To bask in great renown
They had me executed
My name erased from town
But thank you, Theopompous—
You wrote my foul deed down
They say that Alexander
Was born that very day
When I defied Artemis
In a pyrogenic way
Oh, I might have been a lawyer
A doctor or a parson
But, dears, you’ve only ’eard of me
Cause I committed arson.

SEEING A PHOTO OF YOU IN WHITE

for Mary Ann Sullivan

ah the joy of belonging

to longing

the longing of long ago

joy

the bride of the invisible

the outward and visible

manifestation

of joy's longing and living

in worlds of white

away from and

in

the world

whirled

round in the

invisible visible longing belonging

and smiling in the disciplined

laughing

joy

of It All
