The fire within

The three heavens are:

eagle eyed, where the clouds walk with the wind;

they are star struck, where the planets hover in wonder

and

they are ever watchful in God’s throne of judgment and mercy.

The three earths are:

fertile grounds, where wild donkeys run like lions;

centers of refuge, where wild rabbits build their
holes over ancient and massive rooted ceilings

and

they are eternal, where there’s weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The three waters are:

bountiful blessings raining down from clouded waterfalls;

contrasting forces, giving birth to salted monsters and
freshwater terrors

and

a spring containing the water of life for God’s children.

All of a sudden I started counting

Very late one night while lying in bed inside my one bedroom apartment in Bloomington, Indiana, I started to hear a cricket chirping outside; it chirped eight times in a row then paused, then it chirped ten more times in a row before pausing, then it chirped nine times in a row before pausing, then it chirped twenty two more times in a row then it paused, then he or she chirped fourteen times in a row then paused, then it chirped nine times in a row then paused, then it chirped eight times in a row then paused, then it chirped twelve times in a row then paused, then it chirped ten times in a row then paused, then it chirped ten more times in a row then paused, then it chirped twelve times in a row then paused, then it chirped eight times in a row then paused, then it chirped eighteen times in a row then paused, then it chirped eight times in a row then paused, then it chirped eleven times in a row then paused, then it chirped nine times in a row then paused, then it chirped ten times in a row then paused, then it chirped ten more times in a row then paused, then it chirped seven times in a row then paused, then it chirped nine times in a row then paused, then it chirped eight times in a row then paused, then it chirped nine times in a row then paused, then it chirped twelve times in a row then paused, then it chirped nineteen times in a row then paused, then it chirped twelve times in a row then paused, then it chirped eleven times in a row then paused, then it chirped twenty nine times in a row then paused, then it chirped eighteen times in a row then paused.  I was then too tired to continue counting; shortly thereafter I fell asleep.

God’s anointed

“Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them.” 1 Samuel 17: 36

My friend, there is something that perplexes me greatly.
Speak freely.

I have never understood why when a weaker opponent against all odds does
defeat a stronger foe, people say that “David triumphed over Goliath,”
thus seeming to imply that David was the underdog in that ancient battle.
That is clearly not so.  For example, some time before he was to face Goliath,
Samuel had already anointed David King of Israel.  So David was full of confidence.
Also, in the duties that ensued as a result of tending his sheep, David had
already killed both a lion and a bear before ever facing Goliath in mortal combat.
Is it so difficult for a man who has grasped both a lion and a bear with his own hands
before killing them, to slay a giant?
