Marvin R. Hiemstra

One of the delights of living in the Bay Area is the sight of Jack Foley,
Visions & Affiliations broker, catapulting across the poetry scene.

DANCING UP THE WALL IN RED SHOES

Jack taps
exclusively outside
the box.

Natty Red-headed Woodpecker snaps his tap routine on hold, records wild Jack’s
prestissimo patter, shares it with hip woodpeckers frantic to try Jack’s latest beat.

If you don’t
bounce
off the walls
of the box,

you’ll bounce
off the walls
of the Universe.

Sometimes it hurts

when you cross the path

of a comet taking
her first swing lesson,

When you collide with a virgin comet, always say “Excuse me, Miss! Love your tail,”
and tip your range free black rabbit reverse metaphor top hat. Don’t be bashful now!

but such sweet pain
offers
understanding.

You’ll find Jack
happy taking a break:
standing under
a banyan tree slurping
his alphabet soup.
